Biography

Maira Miceli was born in the Dominican Republic, but at the age of 3  she was transplanted to what would become her new home New York City, early on she discovered a love for  art  and fashion, especially drawing  portraits and always creating and sewing from scraps of fabrics. She later  studied  Design and Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC, and put in the necessary hours for the required State issued Cosmetology  License in order to  be allowed to do over the counter make-up consultations a requirement for, working with  Estee Lauder and many others top make-up lines. She also worked for a famous Wig designer  Jacques Darcel, 57TH Street ,which catered to a Theater and film clientele, and many wonderful NYC socialites and actresses, she had started as a receptionist and it quickly evolved to styling and working with the many salon clients, this was a great basis for future hair styling experience, After a chance  freelance opportunity she worked exclusively for  Chanel Inc  for  13 years  where she was trained  in color theory and  skincare, demonstrating the  latest fashion and color trends, she was  resident artist for several prestigious NYC Retail establishments ,including Henri Bendals , and the flagship Saks Fifth Avenue , while in New York she also continued working  in fashion and did many freelance projects for commercials and clothing design, After featuring some of her design work in a downtown Fashion Show, She was contacted and  featured in a Book about East Village Fashion  including many of the art and clothing trends of the time.

After relocating to Miami in search of  sunnier weather in the late 90's , she began her career,in Television, and also continued doing much freelance work  in film and photography, After interviewing for a freelance position she was hired at CBS Telenoticias a 24 hr cable News and Entertainment Network, which later became Telemundo International  this led to a fulltime staff  make-up  artist position at  Telemundo Network , part of NBC/ Universal. Maira worked in all areas of programming and production of   The Latin Billboards Music Awards. She was often on special assignment and on location by request, and was there for over 13 years. She was also the key make-up/hair for  Fox Sports Spanish Network  show  " Jorge Ramos en Vivo," a  variety live sports show,5 years in a row, Maira has done much freelance work including a recent episode for Discovery Channel, which required special effects make-up ,she worked with Samantha Brown from the  Travel Channel ,CNN , AOL /HBO, Univisio, E Entertainment ,Latin America ,Warner Brothers , And recently  Paula Zahn, on special engagement in the South Florida  area .Her work  has also appeared in  the pages of Vogue Espaniol , People en espaniol ,Latina magazine, Ocean Drive Magazine, TV Novelas, El Nuevo Herald , Casa Y Hogar , and several other publications, she continuously  works  with several local photographers and models doing basic beauty head shots for comp cards and portfolio, She most recently assisted in the production of the latest T-Pain  Music video  " Reverse Cowgirl' shot in Miami
 
Maira has gained much satisfaction and experience from the various projects she   has done in the past twenty years and she continues to enjoy her work as an Artist , she feels  that her artistic abilities are the reason for pursuing a career in Make-Up, and that in doing so, this has strengthened her skills . She resigned her position at Telemundo Network , in order to pursue other avenues of work ,and has found many new roads to travel. Because of her first love of fashion and beauty , she also enjoys a very  loyal and steady  Bridal cliental which from early on grew through  referrals and recommendations ,weddings are magical and very special to do   and each bride  is a chance to capture the special beauty of weddings . Because she knows there is a strong connection between fashion , art  history and photography. She has an extensive collection of books , which she  uses for  references and inspiration. She makes a point to stay current attending yearly trade shows for continuous training and networking with industry pro's ,to stay in  touch with the newest technology  and formulas, especially High Def and  Airbrush equipment and special effects and the latest trends in body art .It is her philosophy that as an artist and a person  you learn as much from your clients and colleagues, as you share what you have learned with them and others, she believes that working with so many people through the  years has blessed her with the  special insight and understanding of how to bring out the best in the people she has had the pleasure of working with !
